Charity Work

Streetleague

Street League LogoThe charity which Gilberto gives most of his time to is called 'Street League'. It is a charity which helps young underprivelliged or destitute footballers in the United Kingdom. Gilberto is a patron of the charity, and in June 2003 he travelled to Brazil on tour with 17 Street League players. (Click here to read the times article about the tour.) The tour included a visit to his home town (Lagoa da Prata) and games against local shanty town teams at the Maracană stadium.

Other Charities

Gilberto is also involved with other charities, but he never says what they are. Maybe he doesn't talk about it for fear of bragging; maybe the list is too long. One way or another, it is important to him. He appreciates that other people are not as fortunate as him, that his slums-to-savings success story is not a usual one. One charity he has helped out is Epilepsy Action. He did a doodle for their "National Doodle Day" (click here to see it) which was auctioned on eBay for close to £100. Not bad for a dodgy doodle!

Gilberto also donated a signed shirt to Task Brasil. I became briefly involved with the Task Brasil charity in Santa Teresa, Rio in Brazil; and they are an excellent charity. Gilberto obviously knows this, since he donated this lovely shirt:

What a beauty!

DONATE!

Of course, you don't have to donate. But if you do feel like giving a bit of money to charity today, here are links to charities which Gilberto puts his effort towards:
